Skegness RNLI lifeboats launch for third time in three days

Both Royal National Lifeboat Institution (RNLI) lifeboats at Skegness have today (Monday) been launched for the third time in three days when clothes and shoes were found abandoned on the beach to the north of the Lincolnshire town.
The Inshore Lifeboat (ILB) was requested to launch at 6:20am this morning, with the All-weather lifeboat (ALB) launching shortly afterwards at 6:40am. HM Coastguards searched the beach and a rescue helicopter from RAF Leaconfield joined the search for the adult female who was thought may have entered the water at Winthorpe sometime between midnight and 5am.
The two Skegness lifeboats were tasked to search an area from Winthorpe Avenue in the north to Gibraltar Point in the south – a six mile stretch of coastline.
Just after 8am Yarmouth Coastguard stood down all searching parties when the woman was discovered safe and well at home, in bed, by Police.
The call-out was the third in three days for the volunteer crews of both lifeboats at Skegness, following 'shouts' late on Saturday night and again on Sunday afternoon.
On Saturday, both lifeboats launched at 11pm when a group of teenage girls playing in the sea lost sight of one of their friends. She was later found by Police in a local pub.
And on Sunday afternoon both boats were launched to help RNLI Lifeguards search for five missing children on Central Beach, Skegness. All were found safe and well on the beach.
Speaking after the call-out this morning, Skegness Lifeboat Second Coxswain Ray Chapman said, “It has been an unusually busy few days so early in the season but, most importantly, everyone we’ve been asked to search for has been found safe and well.”
The Inshore Lifeboat was also requested a further four times for missing children over the busy weekend, but stood-down before launching on each occasion.
With the recent hot weather expected to continue this week, the station is urging all holiday-makers to take extra care at the seaside.
