Skegness Lifeboat 'Lincolnshire Poacher' off for Refit

The Skegness RNLI Lifeboat Lincolnshire Poacher left Skegness yesterday morning (Tuesday) for a major refit in Scotland.
The Poacher launched from Skegness at approx 1030 BST for the short passage to Grimsby fish docks where she was lifted out of the water onto a low-loader to be taken by road to Buckie Shipyard in Scotland.
While The Poacher is away, the relief Mersey-class lifeboat 'Lifetime Care' is on station at Skegness.
During the 16-20 weeks The Poacher is away from Skegness she will be completely stripped down and both engines removed before being shot blasted, re-galvanised and re-painted. All panels will be removed as will all the windows, and watertight gaskets will be replaced.
New propellers and shafts are to be installed and navigation aids will be updated. In short, it is the most comprehensive service possible for a lifeboat to undergo.
Refits of this nature are carried out at regular intervals and help to keep the fleet in better than tip-top condition, emphasising the RNLI's commitment to be the finest sea rescue service in the world.
